Introduction To Composites

Since the 1980s composites have primarily been used for secondary wing and tail components such as wing trailing edge panels and rudders.

The usage of composites in the aerospace industry has led to various advantages that include weight reduction being decreased as much as 50% and high impact resistance. These factors amongst others mean that commercial aircrafts, helicopters, business jets and general aviation aircrafts all make substantial use of composites materials and consumables. The advancement and improvement of composites technology continues to advance and excel.

Furthermore, the Aerospace industry continues to utilise the use of composites materials more frequently with Gurit stating:

“This demanding industry was one of the first to use composite materials for an ever-increasing range of applications and remains at the technological forefront of composite development.”

Our aerospace composites offering includes products such as Films Vacuum Bagging Films, Release Films, Sealant Tapes, Peel Plies, Mould Release and Protective Equipment. We are always looking to increase what we offer to our customers on the PSG website.

Press Release 14th July 2017

Paint Services Group Limited (PSG) is proud to announce that we have entered into a distribution agreement with Gurit ( to distribute Gurit’s range of industry leading aerospace prepregs.

With over 30 years’ experience in the practical application of composites across various market sectors, combined with an impressive portfolio of materials and a unique technical approach, Gurit offers the most complete composite solution on the market.

One of Gurit’s primary product categories for the aerospace sector is prepreg, which is an engineered material combining fibres and resin matrices in an easy-to-apply material. These aerospace-qualified materials are highly suitable for many interior and structural applications, demonstrating a unique combination of properties combining excellent mechanical performance and the fulfilment of the highest international JAR/FAR fire protection regulations regarding fire, smoke, toxicity (FST) and heat release.

Under the agreement, PSG will assume responsibility for the supply chain of Gurit’s prepregs to a number of customers throughout Europe. As a first step, PSG will be contacting these customers to identify their ongoing requirements for PSG to establish a stockholding of Gurit’s products at its UK base. This will enable the immediate shipment of a range of Gurit’s materials anywhere in Europe, significantly reducing lead-times and improving service to Gurit’s customer base.

Steve Rice, PSG’s General Manager said “This is a significant step forward for PSG that allows us to build on our excellent reputation for technical support and customer service and we’re very excited to be working with Gurit, a company with an excellent product range and great reputation.”.
